Bearded Collie

The Bearded Collie, often affectionately known as the "Beardie," originated in Scotland as a herding dog. They were used by shepherds to move sheep and cattle and are believed to have descended from various herding breeds brought to Scotland by travelers. Recognized for their intelligence and versatility, Beardies have been cherished as both working dogs and family companions.

Bearded Collies are medium-sized dogs. Males typically stand between 20 to 22 inches tall at the shoulder and weigh between 45 to 55 pounds, while females are slightly smaller, standing 18 to 20 inches tall and weighing 40 to 50 pounds.

Bearded Collies are known for their friendly, outgoing, and spirited nature. They are affectionate and social, often forming strong bonds with their families. Beardies are intelligent and eager to please, making them relatively easy to train when positive reinforcement techniques are used.

The Bearded Collie has a distinctive long, shaggy double coat that can be rough or slightly wavy. The breed's coat comes in various colors, including black, blue, brown, and fawn, often with white markings. Regular grooming is essential to prevent matting and maintain the coat's health.

Bearded Collies thrive in active households where they can interact with their families and engage in various activities. They do well in homes with ample space for play but can adapt to a larger apartment if they receive enough exercise and mental stimulation.

Bearded Collies require regular exercise to stay happy and healthy. They enjoy activities like hiking, running, and playing fetch. Additionally, they excel in dog sports such as agility, obedience, and herding trials. Engaging them with training sessions, playtime, and socialization with other dogs keeps them mentally and physically stimulated.
